Trail cameras – How to use it with animals

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

The obvious and intelligent option is to take up trail cameras and hide it in the place where the animal frequently visits. The camera should be hidden properly so that the animal won’t see it or damage it. If the trail cameras are properly camouflaged and placed the only way the animal can find the camera is through smell or scent around to camera. So try to avoid this as well.

Digital rangefinder cameras can also be used equally like trail cameras but range finder cameras are losing its shine to single lens reflex cameras. The digital rangefinder cameras were popular in 1930s to 1970 but now there are modern cameras with advanced technologies which have over taken the digital rangefinder cameras.

As trail cameras and digital rangefinders are for hunting we need to have predator calls also to complete the hunting baggage packing. There are different types of predator calls. Some even allows the users to add different sound to the instruments. In some cases there might be some limitations on the number of sound added based on the money that you have paid. These are called pre programmed predator calls. Based on your need you can choose your predator calls.

Apple, AT&T speed up iPhone 3G buying over Web

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Apple has figured out a way to let prospective iPhone 3G buyers get a few of the steps out of the way at home.

The activation process is still not quite as smooth as the one that greeted new owners of the original iPhone, but Apple and AT&T seem to have figured out a way to make things a little easier while keeping the unlockers at bay as much as possible. A visit to an Apple or AT&T store is still required, but some of the preliminary details can now be completed via the Internet.

For instance, you can enter your billing information to generate the credit check required for a new contract, pick a rate plan, and make an appointment to pick up an iPhone 3G. The phone still needs to be activated in the store, which is Apple and AT&T’s way of trying to deter those who wish to unlock the phone and resell it for a profit.

This may not apply to everyone, such as those who have business accounts or other special discounts, but should streamline the process a bit for everyone else. Piper Jaffray thinks Apple will have sold 5 million iPhone 3Gs in the current quarter, and this process could make it a little easier for holiday shoppers toward the end of the year.

Nokia launches music/phone bundle in U.K.

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Nokia launched a new music service Tuesday in the U.K. that bundles free access to music with the purchase of a phone.

The new service called “Comes with Music” offers users of certain Nokia phones a year’s subscription to the company’s music service. The program will initially be offered through Carphone Warehouse in the U.K., but Nokia has plans to eventually roll it out globally.

Nokia first announced the Comes With Music service last year. The service essentially bundles access to digital music with the purchase of a new handset. The first phone to use the service is the 5310 XpressMusic device. With the free one-year subscription to the service, Nokia users can download as many songs as they want and keep the songs even after the subscription expires.

This is a clear differentiator from other music stores and services. Apple’s iTunes requires users pay for individual songs or albums. Verizon Wireless and Real have launched the new Rhapsody music store for mobile phones. It also allows subscribers to download and listen to as much music as they like for $15 a month. But once users stop paying the subscription fee, access to the music disappears.

Like the Rhapsody service, Nokia’s music service allows subscribers to share their music with other subscribers.

It’s not known yet how much Nokia will charge for the new 5310 XpressMusic with the one-year music subscription. Carphone Warehouse currently sells the prepaid version of the 5310 for about $145, including $18 worth of talk time. T-Mobile USA has subsidized it for about $50 with a two-year contract, making it much cheaper option than Apple’s iPhone 3G, which costs $200 with AT&T’s subsidy.

Nokia is clearly going after Apple with the launch of the new music store and the bundled offering. The company, which is the No. 1 maker of cell phones in the world, sees services as a key component of its strategy going forward.

While Nokia’s music store is much smaller than what is currently offered by iTunes, the company has managed to sign up three of the largest music labels, Universal, Sony BMG, and Warner Music Group.

Nokia hasn’t said when it will begin rolling out the Comes With Music bundle in other countries. The Nokia Music Store is currently only available in a handful of markets, including much of Europe, Singapore and Australia. U.S. customers will likely have to wait awhile before they can get access to the Nokia Music Store or the Comes With Music bundle.

Tech fair makes room for refrigerators and washers

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

More than 60 years after its debut, one of the world’s oldest consumer electronics fairs is venturing into new territory this week by making room to showcase washers, dryers, stoves and other household appliances. At the IFA fair in Berlin — where former German Chancellor Willy Brandt turned on the world’s first color TV in 1967 — television sets remain a major attraction but they may come built into a refrigerator.

Organizers of the fair say they are moving with the times as retail chains selling electronics replace specialist retailers and companies such as Philips, Samsung and LG no longer limit their products to electronic entertainment.

“By integrating the electrical home appliances industry, we expect consumer lifestyle products from both industries to become more popular, and international trade visitors…to express even keener interest,” said Rainer Hecker, chairman of the GFU group that organizes the IFA.

World demand for major households appliances — so-called white goods — is set to grow 3.1 percent annually through 2011, according to a study by U.S. market research firm The Freedonia Group.

Demand will be driven by consumers looking to replace broken appliances and trade up for newer models like more energy efficient types, the study said.

But developers are also trying to use technology to make domestic appliances even more useful, such as a dryer that includes an ironing function or a washing machine that can be turned on via the Internet.

“Among the 10 most important electrical devices for everyday use, five belong to consumer electronics and the other five belong to domestic appliances,” said Christian Goeke, chief operating officer of Berlin Fair.

Popular among German consumers are hot beverage makers such as espresso machines which have seen double-digit growth in the first half of 2008, as did curling irons and styling wands, market research group GfK said.

The Euro 2008 soccer championships drove up second-quarter sales in Germany of LCD TVs to 2.3 billion euros and GfK predicts the upward trend will continue.

Global revenue for LCD TVs will grow nearly 28 percent this year, resulting in more than 100 million units sold worldwide, GfK said.

Worldwide revenue for consumer electronics is expected to grow nearly 10 percent this year, hitting the $700 billion mark by 2009, according to data from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the GfK Group.

T-Mobile sold more than 120,000 3G iPhones

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Deutsche Telekom’s (DTEGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) wireless business T-Mobile has sold more than 120,000 new 3G iPhones since its sales launch on July 11 despite distribution problems, its chief executive told a German weekly magazine.Hamid Akhavan told Focus, delivery problems that left customers waiting for weeks to get their hands on the new, faster version of the iPhone had been solved and that the backlog would be cleared by the end of the month.

“Our (sales) expectations were surpassed,” Akhavan said in an interview to be published on Monday, adding the carrier had sold 75,000 iPhones in Germany alone.

Akahavan said distribution had hit a snag as Apple had decided to launch the iPhone in 22 countries at the same time.

The latest iPhone from Apple Inc (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) has faster, third-generation (3G) Web connections when compared with the first iPhone that was launched in mid-2007.

But users around the world have complained about dropped calls and inconsistent Internet speeds, with the phone often reverting to a slower technology known as Edge even in 3G areas.

Last week, Apple Inc (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) issued a software update to help fix connection problems that led to a flurry of online complaints from customers.

T-Mobile, which also sells the iPhone in the Netherlands and in Austria, received complaints from Dutch customers but none from German and Austrian ones, Akhavan said.

Do you think solar energy should be banned in the US???

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

What brought this up???? Didn’t you know your government put a moratorium on solar projects????
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/27/us/27s…
http://itsgettinghotinhere.org/2008/06/2…
It was reversed July 3, 2008 under pressure from environment groups.
Happy 4th of July, Patriots!

Didn’t you know? Getting news from YA? I wonder how many people agree with our government and want solar banned (for 2 years or 20 or so).

So, after my “source of questionability” has been challenged and I have “prevailed”, the question remains… do you agree that solar projects should be banned?

no. i don’t see any reason why it should be. it’s hardly a controversial source of power. it’s not like we are going to use up all the sunlight

—–

The gov stopped building solar plants on public (aka government, taxpayer, etc.) owned undeveloped land. Large photovoltaic arrays on natural, undisturbed land may have an ecological impact. Therefore, they put a hold on it so they could asses the potential impact.

The way you phrased your question made it seem as though there is something inherently bad about solar energy (dangerous, etc.), and it was becoming illegal, for instance, for a person to put them on their roof. This is NOT the case.

Hand Tools – From Humble Beginnings to Modern Technology

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Hand tools have evolved from the stone fashioned cutting and pounding tools during the Stone Age to the power tools that are products of modern technology. The hammer, the saw, the drill and the axe that were indispensable hand tools of builders not so long ago is now replaced by modern day tools. The advent of modern day tools has undoubtedly made the work easier. Production is maximized as well.

Traditional hand tools are still used these days but who would say no to air tools? Air saws, air hammers, air drills are great time and work savers. Because these air tools are pretty expensive they are usually used by businesses. If you have an auto repair shop, apart from the air tools you need to equip your shop with an air compressor, hose, regulator and gauges.

The measuring tool industry has also made major changes too. Calipers and protractors that are used to get reliable and accurate measurement are now made to give the highest degree of accuracy. A digital caliper user can make a fast measurement; get the reading and move on to the next task. The old adage “measure twice, cut once” no longer applies as when a digital caliper is used the measurement will surely be accurate and precise.
