Trail cameras – How to use it with animals

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

The obvious and intelligent option is to take up trail cameras and hide it in the place where the animal frequently visits. The camera should be hidden properly so that the animal won’t see it or damage it. If the trail cameras are properly camouflaged and placed the only way the animal can find the camera is through smell or scent around to camera. So try to avoid this as well.

Digital rangefinder cameras can also be used equally like trail cameras but range finder cameras are losing its shine to single lens reflex cameras. The digital rangefinder cameras were popular in 1930s to 1970 but now there are modern cameras with advanced technologies which have over taken the digital rangefinder cameras.

As trail cameras and digital rangefinders are for hunting we need to have predator calls also to complete the hunting baggage packing. There are different types of predator calls. Some even allows the users to add different sound to the instruments. In some cases there might be some limitations on the number of sound added based on the money that you have paid. These are called pre programmed predator calls. Based on your need you can choose your predator calls.

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Generally plants living in big apartments and small home, who cannot afford for large space to go for gardening in full swing, go for the technique called indoor planting. Window boxes are the important segment in indoor planting. In this method containers are used to grow plants they are hanged outside doors and windows just to add scenic beauty and color to the home. They are made up of materials PVC resin plastic, wood, metal, etc….the advantage in window boxes are can be removed and replanted at any time, less pest attack and hide eyesores in our home. Proper methods or steps can be followed for proper growth of plants and only small structured plants and herbs can be grown this makes the window box technique less important and these disadvantages lead to the other type of indoor gardening technique called outdoor planters they are basically used to grow plants of comparatively large size which are used for both medicinal and aesthetic purpose. The other purpose for using outdoor planters are they give us herbs and vegetables which we can use in kitchen purposes for cooking and other purposes. The window boxes have some box shaped structure with hanging hooks used to hang the plants. Thus these are the various methods for making our home an attractable one.

The Kolkata police held a meeting with chief executive officers (CEOs) of all telecom providers, including BSNL, Vodafone, Airtel, Aircel and Reliance, at the police headquarters at Lalbazar here where the caution was deliverd to them.

Twenty-two illegal SIM cards of leading telecoms were recovered from Tausif Rehman and Mukhtar Ahmed, who were arrested Friday. The terrorists behind the recent Mumbai attack had used one of these SIMs.

‘As a part of our investigation, we called the teleservice providers to Lalbazar Monday. In course of our conversation, we found that they don’t cross-check the details of customers submitted by retailers for new connections. They just see if the forms are properly filled or not,’ Police Deputy Commissioner (detective department) Jawed Shamim told reporters Monday.

Shamim said the service providers have been alerted that if they continue their negligence in future, it will be regarded as a criminal offence.

‘With SIM cards playing major roles in terror attacks, details of customers must not be taken lightly or overlooked. It’s the duty and responsibility of the respective telecom service providers and if they remain negligent regarding this matter in future, it will be taken as a criminal offence,’ Shamim said.

Acting on a tip-off, the city police detained a Class-XII student Saturday night from Park Street area in south Kolkata with 10 illegal SIM cards. The boy used to purchase SIM cards against fake documents from various outlets across the city on behalf of Ahmed.

‘We are interrogating the boy about Ahmed and his operations and hence can’t disclose more on this to the media,’ Shamim said.

A 35-year-old Kashmiri Mukhtar Ahmed and 26-year-old Kolkata resident Tausif Rehman were nabbed Friday in a joint operation of the Kolkata Police’s detective department and the Special Task Force (STF).

The police said a SIM card recovered from a Mumbai attack site was one of the 22 Rehman sold to Ahmed a few months back.

All the 22 SIM cards were obtained fraudulently by Rehman. He used the voter identity card of his dead relative Asraf Numan to buy the cards from various local outlets in Kolkata, including some shops at Park Circus, Park Street, Beck Bagan and Beniapukur, police said.

Rehman, a resident of Tiljala area in eastern Kolkata, worked as a junior administrative staff in a local newspaper office a few years ago. He currently works for a travel agency.

Ahmed is said to be a resident of Rehanbari in Srinagar. He used to sell shawls in Kolkata, but had been working as an auto-rickshaw driver for the last one-and-a-half years, the police said.

YouTube Pushes HD Video, New Landing Pages

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Google’s YouTube has rolled out a high-definition option for video and created new landing pages to make it easier to find popular video categories.

The changes are part of a series of improvements Google is making to YouTube as it tries to stay ahead of emerging rivals such as Hulu and deal with the problem of users uploading copyright video.

The HD option increases the size of videos and has startling clarity, with the quality more faithful to the format in which it was originally recorded. The resolution is 1290 by 720 pixels, compared to 640 by 480 pixels for the non-HD videos.

The larger size and better quality, however, means the video requires more data and demands a fast broadband connection for flawless streaming.

YouTube has created a category highlighting videos that are available in HD. They have a “watch in HD” link in the lower right-hand corner — an option Google started to roll out quietly earlier this month.

The company has published a set of guidelines videographers can follow to get the best results.

Google has also opted to segment some YouTube content into three categories to help with navigation.

“News, music and movies are huge categories on YouTube and as a result it can sometimes be tough to find exactly what you’re hoping to watch,” according to the YouTube blog.

YouTube users upload 13 hours of video per minute to the service. Google has been eager to find a way to monetize the site while also addressing concerns that it popularity has been built in part by the illegal posting of copyright content.

Google built its own system to identify newly uploaded videos that may violate the rights of a copyright owner. Content owners give reference videos to YouTube, which are analyzed using a special algorithm. If a similar video is uploaded — even if is missing some frames, is a different size and has subtitles — the content owner is notified.

At that point, the owner can decided whether to allow the video to stay online and run ads next to it, or take it down.

YouTube has also been incorporating links to Amazon.com and Apple’s iTunes store from posted content, which Google officials say has helped boosted sales of DVDs and other media.

Tom Cruise, cast of ‘Valkyrie’ lightened up poking fun at Hitler on set

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

‘Top Gun’ star Tom Cruise along with the cast of the movie ‘Valkyrie’ have revealed that they lifted their mood on the set of the anti-Hitler film by abusing a bust of the Fuhrer.

“The more grim the tale, the more fun you have on the set, otherwise you go crazy,” the New York Daily News quoted Bill Nighy, who plays Gen. Friedrich Olbricht, as telling at the flick’s NYC premiere night.

“If you are in a Nazi uniform, you’re tempted to do stupid and disgusting things in it, to dishonour [Nazis] as much as you can.

“I would spit in his eye, and everybody would give him the middle finger and a few choice words as they walked by,” he stated.

Co-star Kenneth Branagh recounted an old English ditty the cast sang to lighten the mood.

“I shan’t repeat it, but it was based around the fact that Hitler only had one testicle,” Branagh added.

Technology helps Santa make magic, scientist says

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Ever wondered how Santa Claus can travel around the world in just one night on his reindeer-pulled sleigh and deliver toys to all the children?

“He exploits the space-time continuum,” says Larry Silverberg, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University.

Santa’s magic may go far beyond merely traveling across 200 million square miles (322 million sq km) to visit hundreds of millions of homes of believing children in just one night, Silverberg said.

“He understands that space stretches, he understands that you can stretch time, compress space and therefore he can, in a sense, actually have six Santa months to deliver the presents,” Silverberg told Reuters.

“In our reference frame it appears as though he does it in the wink of an eye and in fact there have been sightings of Santa, quick sightings, and that’s in our reference frame, but in Santa’s reference frame he really has six months”.

Silverberg said his research has established that Santa does not, as commonly thought, carry enough presents for each child in his sleigh. “How could he?” Silverberg asked.

“We believe that he uses nanotechnology to grow the presents under the tree and really, what he’s done, is he’s figured out how to turn what we call irreversible thermo-dynamic properties into reversible ones and so he really starts with soot, candy, other types of natural materials, he puts them under the tree and he actually grows them in a reverse process to create the presents, wrapping and all.”

And then there’s the age-old question that Santa has to address every year — who’s been naughty and who’s been nice?

“We believe, that there are large antennas miles long under the snow up at the north pole and we think the grid-spacing is in the order of millimeters so that you can receive radar-type signals,” Silverberg said.

Santa’s trip takes in all continents and all time zones. Silverberg says his sleigh is equipped with an onboard sleigh guidance system.

His reindeer, says Silverberg, are genetically bred to fly, balance on rooftops and see in the dark.

“It’s certainly a worthy thing to spend time on and it has all sorts of ramifications in everyday life,” Silverberg said.
